prettyandpointless:
For the past 9 years, we have followed the lives of the people living in Tree Hill, North Carolina. We have watched them grow as we grew, we have watched them face problems that we were facing, and we have learned important life lessons along with them.
For the first 4 seasons, One Tree Hill focused on the lives of a group of high school students at Tree Hill High. Through these seasons we watched them go through social issues, academic issues, family issues and much more. The characters who’s lives were focused on were extremely easy to relate too. While many of them went through things that I myself have never gone through, like pregnancies or school shootings, I felt like the show provided me with an understanding of what those experiences would be like. On the other hand, there were many situations that the characters faced that I had gone through or I was going through at the time, like boyfriend and best friend problems and trying to figure out what I wanted to do with the rest of my life after high school. Watching these characters go through the same problems I was faced with helped me to solve my problems and gave me the feeling that I wasn’t alone in what I was going through.
One Tree Hill was a show that had real morals and values behind every story line. Almost every episode managed to teach a lesson by the end. I think that One Tree Hill impacted society because it was a show that could reach anyone. Guy or girl, at any age, could put on an episode of One Tree Hill and find at least some aspect interesting or relatable. That’s why it lasted 9 seasons. There is such a large fan base who grew up with the characters on the show and learned things from them that they will carry with them forever. If that’s not an impact on society than I don’t know what is.
In addition to the characters, the writers also added in a story line that gave the opportunity for musicians to come onto the show. For example, Gavin Degraw’s song I don’t wanna be was the theme song for the show. According to DeGraw, the song had been out for a while and only gained popularity when the show did. Many other musicians were also featured on the show, like Tyler Hilton who became a main cast member for many seasons. Not only did One Tree Hill have an impact on the lives of the individuals who watched it, but it also had an impact on the music scene. I don’t know any other show (not including music based talent shows) that had an impact on the music world just by having musicians play a song or two in an episode.
Ask any fan of One Tree Hill and they’ll tell you; it definitely had a major impact on society.
